The Michael Carroll Story – When Lottery Luck Smiles Back at You!
December 26, 2019 Ken JohnsonIf you’re just 19 years old and you come from an ordinary family, you would think that life ahead will be normal and you would have to fight your way through obstacles to earn a decent and respectful living. For most teenagers, at that age, this seems more than natural but not if you’re Michael Carroll. This young man from Norfolk had a lucky push of faith by being one of the few people who are able to win it big from the lottery. However, as it usually happens to such people, that didn’t last for long, so stay with us until the end – we’ll explain what really happened to Michael!
The Michael Carroll Lottery Adventure Begins!
Like every UK national lottery winner, Michael didn’t see this coming which is even more dramatic having in mind the youngster’s past. He grew up without a father who was incarcerated and had a stepfather who would regularly put hands on him. Furthermore, the youngster worked part-time as a binman but didn’t even have a personal bank account. Michael Carroll also had a criminal record which included shoplifting after which he was sent to Hollesley Bay Prison. Overall, we’re talking about a troubled teenager which was able to receive a unique gift at the right time – more than £9,7 million with a daughter on the way!
The unique jackpot which Michael won was back in November of 2002, but it’s still a massive amount by today’s standards as well. This is more than enough to set you for life and Michael promised to be responsible and make good use of his money. Soon after the jackpot hewed the mother of his daughter, Sandra Aitken, but their marriage didn’t last long. She left Michael because of his new irresponsible lifestyle and accused him of cheating with prostitutes. This wasn’t far from the truth as we’ll see below how Michael never kept his promise of spending responsibly.
Going Out of Control – Living a Wreckless Life
It wasn’t long after his divorce when Michael started to do crazy things. He bought an eight-bedroom mansion for £390,000 and started taking illegal substances. It seems that the drug problem comes with the lottery money as you can see a similar scenario in the case of Nina Hughes as well. However, Michael surpassed her as he would occasionally spend around £2000 pounds a day on drugs which became the norm for him. Throwing wild parties was also a speciality for the lottery winner as he would spend as much as £50,000 for his regular monthly parties which included wild orgies and use of all sorts of drugs. In terms of his finances, Michael did take some advice to set up a £3.9 million bond which would produce monthly income. He was told to use these funds only if finances from his other bank accounts were gone. With such a lavish lifestyle, just eleven months after he won the lottery, the millionaire admitted he had to start using the funds from the bond as he was left with no other money to live from.
Being who he is, Micky gave his mother, aunt, and sister £1 million each. Apart from that, he invested up to £1 million in Rangers FC whom he was a big fan of. However, his spending doesn’t end here – It seems that the Michael Carroll lottery winner odyssey is just starting! Having a race track in the field where he and his friends would occasionally bump old cars would be something done frequently at any time of the day which annoyed Micky’s neighbours a lot. He also had to pay £130,000 to blackmailers who threatened his family and due to the use of drugs from him and his friend, he also paid £90,000 on bails. Apart from his huge spending, Michael also had a lot of legal issues related to his aggressive behaviour and threats. In 2006, the millionaire was even sent to jail for 9 months for affray. Apart from that, Mickey was banned from all pubs nearby because of his behaviour.
Where Is Michael Carroll Now?
Eventually, the dust was settled, the smoke cleared and Michael Carroll went broke. With outrageous spending on drugs and parties, you shouldn’t expect anything else but the inevitable outcome of events which served as a big lesson for the lottery winner. Even the Michael Carroll house, famous with its wild parties, had to be sold, but its price of once £390,000 decreased to £150,000 due to the wreckless parties which were held there.
Ten years after he won the lottery, Michael Carroll has blown all his money away and is currently working 7 days a week as a coalman in Scotland. The former millionaire claims he had the best ten years of his life but is grateful to have his life back. He doesn’t regret anything and admits he is now happier than he was before. Michael claims that if lottery lightning strikes twice, he wouldn’t stop working and would be more aware of how he spends his winnings. Currently, the lottery winner is paying monthly rent for his two-bedroom house in Scotland. Find out other interesting stories in our blog post with famous lotto winners that should not be missed!
